I mentioned elsewhere that I once had a trip around an Italian bakery - I was wondering about other pleasant factory tours that people might have experienced.

I've seen, among other things, the inside of a lot of "booze generating" places, an olive oil factory in Cyprus, two English biscuit factories and a Hovis bakery.

I had one tour I hated - a battery chicken farm owned by a schoolfriend's father - hey, he didn't like it either, when he took over the farm they went free range!

So - where have you been, what have you seen?

I too have done a multitude of "booze generating place" tours - they never get dull!

But by far the best "food-factory" tour I've been on was the Ben & Jerry's factory in Vermont - so much ice cream goodness! And it is just what you'd imagine - birds-eye view of the production room, product tasting (!) and LOTS of fun! Bit out of the way for most of the world, but if you ever find yourself at a loose end in Vermont (as you do!), I can't recommend it highly enough!

I toured three Georgia, USA breweries: Terrapin in Athens, Sweetwater in Atlanta, and Atlanta Brewing Company, the home of Red Brick, also in Atlanta. All of them had excellent, informative tours, and for a low price ($7 or $8) you got a souvenir glass with 6-8 tickets good for a 6 oz pour per ticket. They each also offer entertainment provided by local bands. It makes for a great, inexpensive evening.

Red Brick - it's not red, and there's no bricks in it! Whatever, another fun time ,,, – klypos Feb 24 at 20:09

I have visited Brooklyn Brewery.

Brooklyn Brewery was very interesting. They host ~30 minute tours on Saturday, which go through what it takes to brew a beer. The brewery is surprisingly small. They only do 1/3 of their brewing in Brooklyn (although they are currently expanding in Brooklyn). You can ask on of the Brew masters whatever questions you may have. They also serve beer there on Fridays and Saturdays. Its a bring your own food. They serve the beer in plastic cups and have picnic tables set up. People bring their whole families.

I've been to the Coca Cola factory. I was in elementary school so I don't remember much, but I do remember that at the end of the tour you were able to sample ALL of the flavors they make...including flavors from other countries.

I also enjoy watching the Food Network documentaries when they do segments on "How It's Made". Via T.V. I feel like I've seen how most food is made.

We really like how it's made, too. I buy it for my boys on itunes. – Elizra Mar 9 at 19:04
