Can you provide me with the accepted standard measurement conversion for the old fashioned recipe term a "pinch" of salt?

A pinch of salt is when you take your pointer finger, your middle finger, and your thumb and pick up some salt between them.

Just for fun!

(Because in a recipe, a "pinch" is more than accurate enough - especially if you take into consideration that other ingredient measurements are likely to be further off)

According to an online conversion application:

1 pinch = .0625 tsp. (US) (1/16 tsp)

Julia Child said that a pinch is the amount you can pick up between thumb and two fingers, but I think most people prefer to use just the thumb and one finger.

A pinch of salt is literally pinching the salt, taking a pinch of salt with your index finger and thumb, so it means that you'll only get a small amount of salt.

I'm not sure on the exact measurement, but a pinch of salt is probably between a 1/4 tspn to 1/2 tspn of salt.

As others have stated a pinch of salt is a tiny amount. Somewhere between an 1/8 tsp to a 1/4 tsp will get you by most recipes calling for it. As always taste what your cooking and season as needed.

A pinch of salt is in fact, just a pinch of salt. The amount of salt to be added is a too small to be mesaured. Just one of the things you have to play with. Also depends on how much salt you like in your foods.
